Hennigsdorf, Germany
After winning an international competition, Alstom Transport designs a series of trainsets with different car configurations of 3 to 6 cars that will operate in northern Germany with a maximum speed of 160 kph for Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen mbH (LNVG).
Named Coradia Stream, the project is designed to meet passengers’ needs and expectations over the next decades with attractive, safe, efficient, and accessible train travel.
For its design qualities, Coradia Stream HC has recently been awarded a 2022 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Every train set is always composed of single-deck and double-deck cars and combines in this way high capacity with optimized accessibility and passenger flow
Currently, the design development is almost finished, and the handover of the first train is scheduled for 2024.
The new front end of the vehicle is a further development of the previous Coradia Stream trains and will be the new face of the CORADIA Stream platform.
It´s characterized by the contrast of soft modeled free-form surfaces with a distinctive clear “streamline” edge and has a pure, friendly, and open-minded appearance.
The closed and tidy modeled shape with invisible anti-climbers supports the dynamic character visually and optimizes the aerodynamic performance and low noise emission of the front end.
All technical and functional necessary components in the upper front are dark and discreet colored and together with the windscreen integrated into a broad dark area.
The shape of the front lights is visually combined with the horn outlets and generates a broadminded character of the front.
The harmonized cross sections of the single-deck and double-deck cars and consistent roof skirts merge both car types visually into one train.
Well-integrated, equal components (such as windows, doors, destination displays, and loudspeakers) with harmonized positions support this effect and create a high aesthetic quality and ageless design.
The interior is splittable into various zones with customized mood lighting, passenger information, and audio level; smart lighting automatically adjusts the LED according to the level of natural light, time of day, year, journey phase, or zone.
Flexible areas are adjustable in size according to seasons and passengers’ varying needs throughout the year; stretch and mounted flush internal displays; seat-reservation displays, Healthier MobilityTM solutions such as PEPA-F filter.
