Donghua University’s furniture design team gets inspired by the undulating waves and the advancing ships and presents the Wind-wave Chair, a furniture piece whose shape captures the dynamic pictures of the ships and the waves, enhancing its shape and meaning.

The project has been awarded a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The rolling waves refer to the challenges on the road of life, as we -the dreamers- ride boats (like the chair) in the sea.

The armrests and legs are similar to the oars of a ship. When sitting on the chair with hands on the armrest, it is as if waving oars forward.
As the oars direct the ship’s course, by holding the handrails, one aims to control the direction of the future.

Pursuing one’s dreams, it is inevitable to encounter struggles and disadvantages, but the direction of life lies always within our grasp.
In those difficult times, sitting on this chair offers the braveness to face the strong wind and big waves.
