Basel, Switzerland
An appropriation of classic motifs into contemporary design, two stools, named Etto and Joe, pay homage to Joseph Beuys’ felt obsession as well as Ettore Sottsass’ playful interpretations of the canons.
Originally developed for the UK House lobby project, the stools are made of black and gray felt, layered like in Siena’s or Genova’s epic cathedrals, daring a striped Doric and emanating a soft classicism.
The stools are manufactured in Switzerland with 100% natural felt by Wiler Filz AG, a company with a rich history and expertise in the highest-quality felt production.
The seats, 42 cm in diameter and 45-48 cm high, are available in two variations: Joseph, with a fluted Doric silhouette, and Ettore, which features a floral gothic design.
The 10mm sheets of felt are laminated, glued on one side and subsequently carved out by a digital cutter. The layering and gluing process is entirely hand-made, ensuring that each stool is unique in texture and appearance.
Doric and Gothic fragments can also become pedestals for bacchanalian rituals with two coasters: Choose which color fits to Raki or Falanghina.
The Etto and Joe stools and coasters were first presented at Diorama Bar in Milan during the Salone del Mobile in 2023.
