The name of the Tongue Tea Set references the flat ribbons that flow along the geometric body forms to create various elements from handle to spout. The conversation between the two tongues, when they meet, is a nod to the details on Rosenthal’s classic TAC Tea Set designed by Walter Gropius, where the lid top and handle come together to create a single flowing curve.
Bethan combined this reference with other elements from Rosenthal’s history to complete her design, from the wiggles of Eduardo Paolozzi, to the hot pink flamingos that once took up residence in the center of the factory.
