Vienna, Austria
APARTMENT H. is a project by BEHF Architects that has transformed the interior of a historical bel étage apartment from the Gründerzeit era located in the heart of the historic center of Vienna, only a few minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
This unique apartment was short-listed for a 2021 International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

The architects have created a home with a series of spacious spaces and carefully completed and restored unique parts of the original design such as floors, ceilings, and doors.
The apartment that boasts a mix of contemporary and historical features consists of bright, high-ceilinged rooms with parquet floorings, which add detail and texture to the space.

The walls of the entire apartment are painted white and feature the original stuccos, which are preserved.
Behind the doors, every room has its own original, unique atmosphere that stems from the long history of the apartment.
A series of bespoke furniture pieces have been added sparsely in a way to highlight the rooms and their spaciousness.

As a result, BEHF has enhanced the feeling of the apartment being one large, continuous space in which history and modernity enter a dialogue to introduce contemporary elements that harmoniously blend with an imperialistic style.
