American Biltrite’s Abpure Infinity is the first carbon-neutral rubber flooring achieved without purchasing carbon credits, using renewable natural gas (RNG) produced from 100% organic waste through biomethanation, which significantly reduces greenhouse gases at the source.
It is produced with renewable natural gas from 100% organic waste making the product carbon neutral.
For its sustainable design, the Abpure Infinity Carbon Neutral Rubber Sheet Flooring has been awarded a 2024 Green Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Using renewable natural gas made from organic waste to manufacture Abpure Infinity has an actual and direct impact in reducing greenhouse gases at the source.
Abpure Infinity is perfectly aligned with the industry’s desire to improve its carbon footprint because it contributes to reducing buildings’ embodied and operational carbon footprint.
It features a new chip dispersion that creates a more elegant and modern tone-on-tone visual.
The team created a timeless neutral base inspired by the Color Marketing Group color forecast and combined feedback from healthcare designers.
As a bonus, matching colors were identified among the InPro wall paneling series as well as the most popular paint colors, eliminating one challenge for interior finishing color coordination.
The Infinity palette features foundational base colors running from light to dark within hue families to create harmonious tonal combinations.
A collection respectful of mother nature with soothing colors inspired by nature created specifically for today’s healthcare environments.
When the Abpure rubber line was first introduced ten years ago, it was a game changer because it had the best color fastness properties in the category and was the first to be an occupancy-ready no wax-for-life rubber flooring.
The Abpure line does not contain any harmful chemicals and is certified Declare Red List Free and FloorScore. In fact, it is free of PVC, chlorine, phthalate, formaldehyde, and crystalline silica.
Abpure rubber with the Nfuse technology is a dual patented durable rubber flooring that offers the best colorfastness in the industry, meeting requirements of the ASTM 1515 for all colors and backed by a 10-year color fastness guarantee.
This feature eliminates fading, discoloration, and yellowing. Available in 3 mm thickness, Abpure offers all the ergonomic characteristics associated with rubber floors, such as underfoot comfort and reduced ambient noise.
Rather than simply updating our colorways, the designers decided to create a new collection with the same product properties as the original Abpure but with a new chip visual; a color palette to address the specific aesthetics of healthcare interiors.
Also, our research and development team then investigated various options for making our line carbon neutral without the need to purchase credits.
The most natural option was to manufacture Abpure Infinity with renewable natural gas derived from organic waste.
Abpure Infinity is our first cradle-to-gate carbon-neutral rubber sheet flooring.
The research and development team investigated several ways to make this new product line carbon-neutral without purchasing carbon credits.
The clear solution was to manufacture it with renewable natural gas derived from organic waste.
It is a new energy source produced locally from the collection of society’s organic waste.
Instead of letting organic waste go to landfills where they would release greenhouse gases, the organic waste from industrial, commercial, agricultural, and even residential activities are collected.
This organic waste is then transported to a biomethanation farms where it is fermented to generate the RNG.
Full amount of renewable natural gas is used, made from 100% organic waste to offset Abpure’s cradle-to-gate carbon footprint, as measured in our Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
It’s more than being carbon neutral or carbon negative; it’s also investing in new sustainable energy that has a direct impact on reducing greenhouse gases at the source.
