Naples, Italy
“Costiera is all about the organic nature of the land as it breaks when the sea touches the coast,” explains Alberta Caradente, designer.
Alberta Caradente has created the Costiera Black Tray a multifunctional object that can be used both vertically as a decorative element or vase and horizontally as a pocket emptier, and it is made with 3d printing technology, which allows having a top grade of sustainability.
Costiera Black Tray’s sustainable concept and design recently won a 2022 Green Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The designer describes the project as “an abstraction of the Sorrento Coast, a sculptural object in its tactile characteristics refers to the rough coast on which the sea breaks,” and it is part of the Costiera collection inspired by Naples, its myths, places, and lifestyle.
Caradente always makes sure to connect objects with senses and emotions; playing with dimensions and with changing the point of view, giving a tactile experience thanks to an irregular material.
Costiera is created through 3d-printing and the material used is PLA, a polymer of lactic acid, which is derived from natural biodegradable and therefore sustainable sources, mainly corn, and not from petroleum as is the case with plastic.
The 3d-printing manufacturing process makes each Costiera different and unique.
