Vancouver-based cat furniture company, Tuft and Paw, has designed the Cove; a simple, beautifully reimagined take on the classic litter box, featuring an integrated scoop, dustpan, and hand brush.
Tuft and Paw has been researching on this project for a year collaborating with designers, engineers, and cat behaviorists.
Cove’s design and features won the company a 2021 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
This innovative litter box is made of a thick, matte toxin-free plastic that feels sturdy, lasts for years, and can be wiped clean.
A silicone base grips the floor to keep the litter box from sliding during use or cleaning, and a hidden handle allows the box to be lifted and moved with ease.
Considerable thought was put into the size and shape of Cove. The vertical walls help to keep litter contained and provide ample space for cats.
The 8” height is optimal for minimizing mess while ensuring visibility for cats, who feel vulnerable to predators while using a litter box.
The Shelter is a semi-opaque 8” partition that can be added to the Cove, to meet the needs of cats who kick or fling litter without compromising sightlines or style.
The open-top prevents trapped odors, which are unpleasant for both cats and humans.
Cleaning and tidying the litter box area is made simple through the inclusion of complementary tools that can be stored in an integrated insert.
The scoop features narrow, angled slots that sift litter quickly and neatly, and a curved shape that fits perfectly in the box itself, to allow easy cleaning of every corner.
An accompanying hand brush and dustpan allow owners to sweep up and redeposit stray litter as needed.
The form and function of the box combine to produce a truly beautiful object, in a sleek off-white shade that blends seamlessly into modern home decor. Cleaning the litter box will never be a pleasant chore, but the Cove will help owners make the best of it.
The product is made of double-walled thick matte plastic with a rubber base and has a hidden handle and soft plastic bottom that allow you to lift and move the litter box with ease.
It has an integrated tool insert for tidy storage and easy cleaning and the scoop has tapered slots to sift litter faster, and a large-diameter handle for a comfortable and accessible grip.
Additionally, the shelter lifts off easily and has a corner entry for versatile positioning in any room.
