Beijing, China
The Capital International Exhibition & Convention Center (CIECC), designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, has recently been inaugurated in Beijing, marking a significant expansion of the city’s exhibition and convention capabilities.
This state-of-the-art facility adds over 611,000 square meters to Beijing’s existing infrastructure, featuring nine new exhibition halls, three reception halls, a conference center accommodating 9,000 delegates, and a 410-room hotel.
Strategically located in the Shunyi District, adjacent to the Capital International Airport and accessible via Line 15 of the Beijing Subway, the CIECC is poised to become a central hub for international conferences and industry expos.
The design incorporates a central north-south axis, providing clear navigation and flexibility, while creating a central courtyard with sheltered outdoor event spaces and landscaped gardens.
The architectural design features a pleated copper façade, complemented by a composite roof system with symmetric geometries.
This approach creates an insulated, lightweight, large-span structure, allowing for column-free spaces that enhance the versatility of the exhibition areas.
The modular construction methodology employed reduced development time and costs, while maintaining adaptability for various event requirements.
In line with China’s highest green building standards, the CIECC integrates sustainable practices such as hybrid ventilation systems and rainwater recycling. These features underscore the commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
