Santa Barbara, California, USA
Inspired by the mid-century Case Study homes of Southern California, Tighe Architecture erects a new family home, built to replace an existing burned-out residence on a severe hillside lot in the Riviera neighborhood of Santa Barbara, California.
Steel and glass are the most used materials offering optimal transparency, providing access to the pool and private gardens to the North, and capturing majestic panoramic views that stretch across the Pacific.
The Fire House has recently been awarded a 2023 American Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
This modest home has an open plan where the living, dining, and kitchen areas are orderly aligned.
The primary living areas are centrally located, flanked by bedroom suites on both sides.
An ADU was designed for the lower, semi-subterranean level.
The space is carved out of the hillside site and nestled within the natural vegetation of the hillside slope.
Tighe Architecture has designed this highly sustainable home to be LEED Platinum worthy, employing strategies both active and passive.
