After three years of construction, gmp Architekten, Dejaco + Partner, and Bergmeister Consulting Engineers have completed the refurbishment, conversion, and upgrade of the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano, transforming it into a contemporary football stadium for professionals.
Meinhard von Gerkan, Stephan Schütz, and Stephan Rewolle from gmp Architekten have completed the new the Chengdu Sports Center for China Resources Land (Chengdu) Development Co., Ltd., also known as Dong’an Lake Sports Park, consisting of three new sports and leisure buildings that appear diverse but together form a harmonious ensemble, thanks to the color palette and the materials used.
Led by Meinhard von Gerkan, Nikolaus Goetze, and Magdalene Weiss at gmp Architecten together with landscape Architects WES GmbH and lighting designers Lichtvision Design, the design for the new Changzhou Culture Plaza located to the north of the new city center of Changzhou is comprised of six identical, freestanding building modules that are angled towards each other and arranged in a 2 x 3 cluster.
The architects have been awarded first prize in the competition for the modernization and restructuring of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin from Hans Scharoun. The jury found that the design for the golden “ship of books” meets the demands of new, open libraries in the 21st century while at the same time preserving and again revealing the outstanding architectural qualities of this important academic library.
