Starting with simple, strong forms and a grounded, inviting stance across the line the refresh began. Thoughtfully placed chamfers and controlled rounds echo attention to detail across the line. In concert with precise part breaks and clean surface transitions, these elements lend visual voice to the spirit of X-Acto.
The project has been awarded a 2020 Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
The refreshed design language communicates the core attributes of the brand and heroes a product family cohesion that is not typical of the category. With larger shaving bins, auto-stop, and auto-sizes adjustments, the sharpener range focuses on a clean and efficient user experience. Each sharpener, no matter how small, delivers precision sharpening with less breakage for frustration-free usage and intuitive interaction.
