It is often difficult to orally administer the correct amount of medicine to children accurately and safely.
Young patients refuse medicines because many of them are bitter-tasting.
Röchling Medical, a leading pharmaceutical company, has developed a new way of administering drugs to solve the problem known as multi-particulate drugs.
Sympfiny® is an innovative oral delivery system for dosing and dispensing dry powder, microsphere, and multi-particulate drug formulations.
Designed by HS Design in partnership with Röchling Medical, Sympfiny is a system for dosing and oral delivery of multi-particulate, dry powder and microsphere drug formulations in low resource settings.
According to the World Health Organization, almost 3 million children needlessly die from pneumonia and diarrhea each year.
Drugs for the treatment of pneumonia are available in developing countries, but not in the recommended dose or formulation.
Multi-particulates, nano-sized bead-like drug formulations akin to microspheres, can solve this problem.
However, the delivery of multi-particulate drugs to children has previously required unfamiliar procedures and limited one-size-fits-all doses.
Sympfiny eliminates these problems because it uses the same method of dosing as traditional moral syringes.
Sympfiny’s breakthrough system enables caregivers to store, extract, and deliver dry drugs with the same familiarity used with traditional liquid oral drugs.
The patent pending design allows easily controlled precise dispensing, ensuring all medication is delivered in the child’s mouth.
Sympfiny can be used in a wide variety of settings and by a diverse set of users. Sympfiny was designed with the entire supply chain in mind.
The system’s bottle can be pre-filled or pharmacy-filled.
The internal valve and bottle cap design ensure the drug is protected through shipment, storage and use.
The re-usable syringe comes in two sizes with both offerings adjustable dose settings.
