London, United Kingdom
For the Skipping Rocks Lab start-up, Notpla Limited, a brand that would leave people in no doubt about its potential value to the world, London-based Superunion has developed a new product called “Nopla”—an edible, biodegradable material made from plants and seaweed.
Notpla (an abbreviation of “Not Plastic”) is more than just a brand but also the name of its revolutionary material.
Notpla is created to be a simple, bold definition of who they are: not plastic, but a completely new thing. The brand’s core mission: to make plastic disappear. Notpla is a flexible packaging for beverages and sauces.
It’s made from Notpla, a new sustainable material combining seaweed and plants.
Notpla biodegrades in 4-6 weeks, or you can just eat it, making it ideal for on-the-go consumption.
It can be used directly to replace plastic cups at sporting events, festivals, and private parties, as well as sachets for condiments, and can be made into thin films or a coating for cardboard to create a wide range of products.
So, the animated logo reflects a vessel that can be filled with water and when it is emptied, the exterior disappears, just like its packaging.
The tone of voice is simple, pared-back, direct and bold. Notpla is built on the idea that its products will change the world. With such a bold and brave intention at the core of the brand, the only way to communicate this is in a simple and clear way, without being shy and overcomplicated.
The little Notpla sachets called “Ooho” make a big contribution toward cutting down on single-use plastic, giving consumer brands a significant advantage as audiences make more conscious choices about where and what they eat today.
Oohos are a fun way to drink juices, waters, or even alcohol cocktails at festivals or private events without using plastic. The plastic-free sachets are a sustainable solution to wasteful sauce pots and condiment sachets.
Notpla can also encapsulate a wide range of sauces, salad dressings and condiments.
Developed with the take-away industry in mind, the sachets made from Notpla range from 10-60mL and can be composted with the rest of food-waste.
Nopla has also developed the coating made for the food takeaway industry. The Notpla coating also provides waterproofing and grease-proofing cardboard takeaway boxes.
This latest product is tackling the problem of lined cardboard, usually coated with plastic made from oil or corn, both non sustainable. It’s natural, biodegradable and can even be repulped.
The Nopla brand is at the forefront of environmental sustainability to signify a fully natural packaging.
