HARMAN enlisted Gensler to design its first European flagship store situated in the heart of Munich, which showcases the company’s audio brands and technologies to retail and automotive customers.
The design for the store was inspired by the visualization of a sound wave, the local automobile culture and HARMAN’s rich heritage.
The store’s curving layout and undulating baffle ceiling pull customers through distinct touchpoints, which enable them to interact with solutions from HARMAN including cars equipped with its premium audio systems.
Custom millwork evokes HARMAN’s rich craftsman legacy and neutral design elements highlight the innovative, high-tech products.
Flexibility was key to the store design as it can be entirely transformed for events — e.g. lectures, concerts, parties — with changeable fixtures, product displays, digital content, and color-changing LEDs for a full brand takeover.
Pushing the experiential dimension even further, the Munich Experience Store will enable customers to interact not only with HARMAN’s products, but also with regular musical events, celebrity appearances, car launches in collaboration with automakers, and much more. An adjacent Luxury Audio Studio also allows audio enthusiasts to enjoy and explore products from HARMAN’s exclusive luxury brands like Lexicon, Mark Levinson, and Revel, as well as a deluxe cinema featuring Dolby Atmos.
