The ‘Fragile’ is unique in its kind, created from granite blocks from a quarry outside Ventimiglia in northern Italy. A transparent frame of multicolored glass supports 400 kilos of granite block for the table, and the chair has a granite base that supports the seat and back in multicolored glass. “The stone furniture is symbolic in several ways, and the contrasts of the materials are in focus.
For the table, the 400-kilogram boulder rests on top of the fragile glass. It is a metaphor for our strange reality, where the fate of the entire world depends on thin, fragile agreements between countries.” says Alexander Lervik. The stone is carefully selected by designer Alexander Lervik, for its beautiful veining. To create contrasts in the stone and highlight the veining, Alexander ground three sides and left the rest to retain its natural shape for the chair and ground the upper and lower parts of the table. The polished surfaces contrast with the natural roughness of the edges and cause the light to be caught in different ways.

Alexander Lervik is one of Scandinavia’s foremost designers with several products in the permanent collections at the National Museum in Oslo and the National Museum in Stockholm. He works with leading Scandinavian brands such as Designhouse Stockholm, Adea, Noon, Zero and Orrefors/kosta Boda. Internationally, he has collaborated with, among others, Moroso in Italy.
In 2007, he scanned his own brain and 3d printed it into the MYBRAIN lamp in a limited edition, which is described by several auction houses as the first signature object in Scandinavia for 3D print technology. Among his most famous products are the Brighthandle door handle that communicates with colored light and the light swing sense.
Alexander Lervik’s design is timeless Scandinavian with a twist – often containing an innovation and often with new areas of use. Alexander has had solo exhibitions at the National Museum in Stockholm, Sven Harry’s Art Museum in Stockholm and a retrospective exhibition at the Kulturhuset in Stockholm in 2018.
