Carson Brown and his team at TAUR Technologies have developed a unique, new concept for the electric road scooter. A forward-facing design. Instead of standing on a regular scooter ‘deck,’ riders stand on two folding foot platforms – creating a more comfortable, safer and sleeker design.
The new TAUR Electric Road Scooter recently won a 2021 Green Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
“Our design has resonated with people because we’ve improved not just the ride experience, but also the lifestyle that comes with owning an electric scooter,” states Carson Brown, Co-Founder and Lead Designer at TAUR.
TAUR is a scooter that stands out from the crowd thanks to its two-foot platforms which fold outwards from the central frame, providing a designated area for each foot.
Instead of having your feet one behind the other on a single deck with hips twisted, on TAURnm you stand with your feet side by side, one on each platform, fully facing forward.
This offers much more stability and allows you to twist easily in either direction for maximum traffic awareness.
The company has captured attention for other reasons too.
The platform design allows for wheels 2.5x larger than the conventional design.
Their 12.5 inch, kevlar-reinforced, puncture-resistant Continental® tyres cushion the roughest of roads and are exceptionally durable on uneven surfaces and potholes.
TAUR’s front lighting consists of a high-power directional beam – providing maximum visibility and time to react.
In addition to a brake light at the rear, TAUR has created its own patent-pending rear light projection technology.
This extra red light shines upwards onto the rider’s back, illuminating them at eye level for drivers and other road users.
It’s also super quick, has a long-range and charges up to 80% within 2 hours.
